Missions Committee: Ashford supports a variety of organizations on the local, national and international level through regular, monthly financial support. This year, the Missions Committee at Ashford has chosen to support the following organizations: · American Red Cross · Ashford Memorial Pencil Fund (used for emergency needs in the community) · ESP (Extra Special People) · Interfaith Hospitality Network · Project Safe Battered Women’s Shelter · Salvation Army · Samaritan’s Purse · Sparrow’s Nest Mission Church The Missions Committee supports various other organizations, individuals, and projects throughout the year as needs arise. For example, Ashford and its congregation contributed to the Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. AMMC Senior Outreach Committee: Missions funds also are used to subsidize the work of the Ashford Memorial Methodist Senior Outreach Committee. This committee sponsors projects throughout the year for senior citizen members and friends of the church. The Senior Outreach Committee’s projects have included holding a tea for the ladies of the church, sending greeting cards, and delivering Christmas and Easter gift baskets. Outreach Projects: The Ashford congregation is involved in various outreach projects in the community: · Ashford volunteers at ACTS (Area Churches Together Serving) food bank throughout the year. · Families and small groups are responsible for serving supper once a month for the residents of the Athens Area Homeless Shelter. · This past Christmas, the congregation provided Christmas presents to three foster children in Oconee County. |
